Hiking Through Shenandoah

Hey guys! Long time no see huh? I've been a little MIA lately on the blog because I've had some (good!) stuff going on in my personal life and just haven't had the time to blog... or hike. I did, however, finally get to my emails and responded to every. single. one!

Yesterday Dee and I met up in Shenandoah National Park to do some hiking. Our original plan was to hike South River Falls and then head to Bearfence Mountain for a sunset. The plan kind of happened. Dee got off early from work so I set out to meet her much earlier than planned, 3:30 instead of 6:00. We met at the South River Falls trailhead and did the short hike down to the falls and then came back up. Afterwards we went to Big Meadow Wayside to use the bathrooms but we ended up indulging in some darn good cheeseburgers... seriously if you're ever near the Big Meadow area stop and get a burger, you will not be disappointed! We picked a picnic table under a big oak tree outside the Wayside and watched the low hanging clouds roll across the meadow as we ate our food and chatted. Afterwards we headed to Bearfence but because the clouds were skimming across the mountain tops, the summit was completely submerged in fog so we headed further down the road to hike The Pocosin Mission Trail- something Dee has been wanting to hike for awhile. The hike takes you down a fire road to an abandoned Episcopal mission... it's only slightly creepy. Dee loves anything abandoned, haunted, etc. so she was happy as can be stomping around the old foundation. After we hiked back up to our cars we said our goodbyes but I will be seeing Dee in a short few weeks to go backpacking down in North Carolina for my birthday weekend!
